Get ready for a taste of authentic Ukrainian cuisine.
34 Chapel Street, Windsor, VIC, 3184

About Us
Otakoi is a new Ukrainian restaurant in Melbourne - the first of its kind in the city. We opened it to share authentic Ukrainian cuisine and culture with Australians and the guests of the city of Melbourne!
Concept & Vision
Otakoi isn’t just a dining spot; it’s a cultural space. The menu features traditional Ukrainian dishes such as borshch, varenyky, holubtsi, smoked meats, and honey cake, all presented with the warmth of Ukrainian hospitality.
Atmosphere & Design
The restaurant combines a cosy, homelike feeling with Ukrainian decorative elements. From wood accents to embroidered patterns and fireplace seating, every detail reflects a blend of comfort and tradition. Our guests are welcomed with a friendly family-run atmosphere, staying true to the roots of Ukrainian dining.
Community & Culture
Otakoi is more than a business: A way for Australians to discover Ukrainian flavours, traditions, and celebrations. A supporter of Ukraine through different initiatives: fundraising events, art exhibitions and community meetings, etc.

Meet Hanna and Micheal
Our Story

Otakoi was born from a love story.
Hanna, a Ukrainian refugee, arrived in Melbourne carrying memories of home and a lifelong dream of opening her own restaurant. She met Micheal, a passionate local chef, and they fell in love, bonding over a shared vision. They decided to combine her financial skills and heritage with his culinary talent to create a taste of Ukraine on Chapel Street.
There is a saying that every meal tells a story, and at Otakoi, we believe that to be true. Our story isn't just about food; it’s about a journey across the globe, a love that bridged two cultures, and a dream nurtured by the incredible power of Dream that comes true!
The Letter "Ї"
The story of the name "OTAKOЇ"
OTAKOЇ, draws its name from a joyful exclamation.
In Ukrainian, "Отакої!" (pronounced approximately "oh-TAH-koh-yee!") is an expression of surprise, wonder, or even a slightly cheeky "wow!"
The inclusion of the letter "Ї" (yi) in the name is a special nod to the Ukrainian alphabet, setting it apart and immediately signaling the restaurant's cultural roots.
This unique letter, with its double dot, is a proud marker of the Ukrainian language, and by featuring it, OTAKOЇ creates a strong connection to our Ukrainian heritage.
